Manchester High School
The Rapids finished out the week with an easy win over Manchester away from The Swamp last night. The girls jumped out to a very early lead, 30 seconds in, with a well timed run and neat finish by Kiersten Hening. Hunter Collier was able to time her pass perfectly to avoid the offsides and Hening tucked the ball away into the corner. A few minutes later, junior midfielder Nicole Beachy played a beautiful through ball to Collier who finished nicely in the 1v1 with the Manchester keeper. Before the 10 minute mark was reached, Emily Crocco converted a penalty kick after a handball was called inside the penalty area. 3-0 less than minutes in!
As the half continued, the Rapids continued to be the dominant force and kept play away from goalkeeper Abby Rieck. Three more goals were added before halftime was reached. Meghan Siedlecki had a screamer into the roof of the net after an indirect free kick was awarded when the goalkeeper picked the ball up after her teammate passed it back to her. Nicole Beachy served up another delicious pass through to Lindsey Keith who joined the other Rapid goal scorers. The sixth goal of the half came from an unfortunate own goal committed by Manchester.
At halftime, Abby Rieck switched out of goal and passed the gloves onto Collier to finish out the game. The four freshmen, Amanda Arnone, Sophie Azula, Lauren Beachy, and Lindsey Munyak, did not see play in the first half but started the second half and had an immediate impact on the game. Munyak was able to score the two remaining goals to activate the “slaughter rule” (if leading by 8 goals or more with 20 minutes left, the game is over) and the game finished at 8-0.
The team returns home next week to host Midlothian at The Swamp and then finishes out the week before spring break at Clover Hill! Come out and support the team on Tuesday!
