Game Recap

The Rapids lost a tough one last night to a very strong Kellam team 3-1. The travel was tough on the players with a 2.5 hour bus ride and no air conditioning, but the girls still managed to compete extraordinarily well despite the conditions.

The team possessed the ball extremely well on a large turf field (first time this season on turf and on a field of that size) and created a few good early half chances. Unfortunately, against the run of play Kellam was able to break the deadlock with a nice buildup on their right side and had a nice finish near post on us. A similar play later in the half developed on that same side and we were down 0-2 before entering halftime.

We had a slight lightning delay to begin the second half, but after the 30 minute delay, we were able to start up again. A few tactical changes to try and push people forward helped a bit, but we were still unable to really gain momentum in the attacking third. Kellam got their third goal which served as a dagger for the Rapids. We were able to pull one back after a beautiful cross from Kiersten Hening that found the foot of Hunter Collier who buried it first time in the upper corner.

We threw numbers forward and increased the pressure but were unable to add any more.

The Rapids finished the season with a record of 13 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie. A fantastic season and plenty to build on for next year!

Great job girls!
