Seeded 8th in a field of 12 runners, James River senior Claire McClintick pulled off

a major upset by winning the 3200M race at the 6A South Regional Outdoor Track Championships this past Saturday at Todd Stadium in Newport News.

Claire held off a late charge by her nearest competitor to win by a slim .23 seconds with a time of 11:45.   One week earlier, Claire finished in 2nd place at the Conference 3 Championships.

Claire, a co-captain each of the last 2 years,  has competed in all 3 running disciplines (cross-country, indoor track and outdoor track) all 4 years while at James River.   During her 12 competing seasons, she has never failed to qualify for regional competition.  Claire will compete at States this coming Saturday, the 6th time she has qualified for competition at that level.

Claire will attend The College of William and Mary this fall.
